garmin running watches 110 image
Answer
If you want cheap, you're looking at a pedometer or something that's pedometer-based.
If you want accurate, you're looking at something that includes GPS (like any Garmin Forerunner above the Forerunner 60), but your expense will go up.
I think the Forerunner 110 is the cheapest Forerunner that would do what you want, but it's around $150 new, or you can find a refurbished model.
If you're looking to spend that much though, do some research, and maybe think about coughing up a little more to have a more solid long-term investment. And you might not think you'll use a heartrate monitor, but one is likely more helpful than you expect.

Which garmin forerunner watch should I purchase?
Runningirl
I'm a HS sophmore cross country runner who is looking for a garmin forerunner. I go on runs from 3-8 miles a time, so it should be comforatable. I'm also a girl who has small wrists, so it would be benificial if it wasn't bulkly. So just wanting a watch. I prefer garmins, but open to other brands as well!!! All comments appreciated:)

I love the 405 CX (with the heart rate monitor). It is much better for training than the 110 as you can program in workouts and get audible alerts at based on time or distance.
It is comfortable enough but certainly not attractive. If your wrists are too small then you can swap out the rubber band for the velcro one. The 110 looks better but honestly I don't care about looks while training.
If you are serious about using a gizmo for training then it is worth the price.
