Alex

My new cat runs ahead of me from my room to the kitech, the kitchen back... just everywhere... why does he feel the need to run way ahead of me wherever i go?

We get along great and he isnt scared of me.

Answer
It's a cat thing, he likes to lead the way. Doesn't he usually look back to make sure you are following. He is just having fun. It's being a cat and playing. Actually it's showing you that he has bonded with you and that you are friends.
Your cat will do a lot of things that you won't understand, he's a cat. They make sense to his little brain, but we will never ever understand a cat, that's what makes them so much fun. I just love watching my cats to see what comes next. After 17 years Emily has still come up with ways to comfuse me, and I hope to have her longer and for her to confuse me forever.

How can I stat running? How do I get a good pace and start losing weight?

Peach Rose

I am 16, 160lbs and want to start running to ton lose weight, get outside more and generally become fit and healthy. Where do I start? Thank you!
Also, what should I wear? (Im female).

Answer
Start off slow. Find a good pace that you feel you can pull through without elevating your heart rate too much.
Start off running at your comfort speed for 10 minutes. If you feel light-headed, overheated, heart palpitations, or difficulty breathing, slow it down to a walk for a few minutes. Walking with both arms above your head is a good way to open your lungs and catch your breath. It won't look as silly if you have your elbows up and your hands or wrists resting on your head. The important thing is that you open your chest cavity so that you have plenty of room to breathe. It is very important not to burn yourself out or to over work yourself starting out. Alternate between running and walking for a total of 30 minutes when you're first starting out.
After a week or two (or whenever your routine becomes fairly easy for you to achieve), increase your running time by 5-10 minutes at a time. Keep doing that until you are running for an hour at a time. It may take a while it you're out of shape, but you're still giving yourself a good workout when you're training to reach your goal. Don't give up!
What you wear depends on the climate where you live. I would have to wear something very light and breathable here, because it is hot and very humid. If it is cool wear you live, many people enjoy wearing jogging suits. The most important thing is to make sure you have some good, comfortable running shoes to minimize pressure on your joints. And a sports bra...It hurts when they bounce a lot.
I would suggest getting a stop watch and some nice tunes. music really helps to take your mind off of any fatigue or motivational problems you may have. Try listening to upbeat, fast-paced music. Get a stop watch, so that you don't have to keep an eye on how long you've been running. The time will go by much faster. I find it helps to have a destination. I get bored quickly running around a track. It would be especially nice to have a good hiking trail to go to!

Advice on which heart rate monitor to buy for my daughter?

I would like to buy a heart rate monitor watch for my daughter. It needs to display the heart rate and the stopwatch readout at the SAME time (2 lines) so that she can look at her time while she is running. I would like one that is not too large. I bought her one, but I got it on Ebay, and when it arrived it turned out to be quite large. I'd like to spend less than $100.

If you would like to give advice on units to avoid, that would be welcome also.

I did almost bid on the Polar S120, but I think it might be pretty big.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
I use the Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS. It has a heart rate monitor, stopwatch, set alerts for your pace and HR, includes distance, best pace, average pace etc. Much more than $100. But well worth it.

which is the best of the GPS type running watches?

Mel

I used to have one but it burned up the batteries fast, to the point where i changed them so much, the watch stopped working. The man at the jeweler warned me that with those watches, once you change the battery they may not run anymore. Anyways am looking for one under $150. Just need the GPS, don't need the heart rate monitor or anything fancy. Ok thanks!

Answer
Try the Garmin Forerunner 205. You can get it new for $125. It has a ton of features without the heart rate thing. It can show almost every single data on one screen at the same time that you want. Pace, distance, elevation, average pace,. those are just to name a few of the many features it has for a excellent price.
I got mine on amazon for $123. New.
Hope you find this helpful.

Is walking with ankle weights a good way to tone legs and butt?

best watch for running 2013 on Top 10 Best Websites to Buy Watches Online | Top 10 Watches
best watch for running 2013 image

Loving_me1

I am planning a trip to Hawaii and want to get into a two piece by Feb 11 2013. What can I do to make this happen? I am 5â11 Weight 185 I want to gain 10 pounds muscle and tone body. I just start walking on Monday with five pound ankle weights on ea leg for 30 mins. How many days per week should I walk? What other exercise can I do to help me?

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Ugh, I hate the word "toned" because so many people use it in the wrong context. The look you are trying to achieve is simply lean muscle mass and low body fat %. For lean muscle mass you need to tax the muscles through heavy resistance training and let them repair. You can't target fat loss either, so you have to lose fat all over your body to lose fat where you want.

Walking with 5 pound ankle weights is going to have very little impact on your overall physique. Running won't even help you much. You need to lift heavy weights. If you really want to "tone" your legs and butt there are three (four if you want to hit your calves hard) exercises that you should focus on. I am giving you exercises to work on that, but you shouldn't neglect upper body if you truly want to maximize lean muscle mass and fat burn.

1) Squats - I Prefer low bar to high bar. Go to youtube and search for "Rippetoe low bar squat." Make sure you find a form video.
2) Deadlifts - This will hit almost every single muscle in your body. When performed properly it will really work your glutes, hamstrings, quads, traps, almost every muscle. once again, youtube a video on "How To Deadlift".
3) Barbell Lunges - a great complimentary leg exercise that will also target your core since you have to maintain your balance. Once again, hit up youtube. (Barbell Step-Ups are also similiar)
4) Standing Barbell Calf Raises - This is Isolation work and may not be needed. Especially if you wear high heels often.

No offense, but don't do "Barbie weights." Lift heavy. Use barbells. Within a few weeks of practicing form and after a couple warm-ups, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to squat at least 50% of your body weight and deadlift 65% of your body weight 5-6 times .

If you don't have access to heavy weights you will need to do the body weight versions. To get the most effectiveness out of this, you will need to have minimal down-time between sets and focus on more explosiveness. I would also incorporate burpees and push-ups if you have to go with the bodyweight versions.

Watch your diet and you should be able to reach your goal in two months. You can't outrun or outlift a bad diet! Don't fall for gimmicks and fads and hopefully you will stick with it after February as well.

Good Luck!!

How much money would I need to spend in Dubai and Abu Dhabi per day?

Lily

I am planning to travel to the United Arab Emirates January 2013. Can someone who has traveled to that country give me any useful information that I should know before leaving such as: weather, cost of food, local transportation/within country, recommendations on cheap and decent hotels??? Thank you!!!

Answer
How much money you would need to spend in Dubai and Abu Dhabi per day will depend on your activities only.
The weather will be pleasant (cold for me). It's what you may call T-Shirt weather. But bring a light jacket along with you because at sitting outside, especially in the evening can get a bit cold.
Renting a car isn't necessary as long as you don't want to tour through the whole UAE. In Abu Dhabi you can reach every destination easily by cab or bus.
Because beach vacations are out of question in January, you may get a hotel downtown. I can recommend the Novotel and the Christal. Both are located in the middel ot the city and every wanted destination can be reached easily. Alternatively you may look for any promotions of other hotels online.
You have the option to dine at any food court of a mall or in a restaurant. Restaurants which are authorized to serve alcohol are more expensive compared to others. You'll find all kind of cusine and many times all you can eat lunch/dinner buffets for a fixed price. Dining prices in 5 star hotels can be compared with prices in any western 5 star hotels. Don't miss eating Arabic cusine which will be cheap and tasty. A dinner buffet a Al Maha Rotana for example can be joined for AED 70 already (closed to the mentioned hotels).
The cab fare from a hotel to any mall or souq will be around AED 10-AED 20 incl. tips depending where you go. Bus fares are AED 1 per one way only.
A sighseeging tour by the Big Bus is AED 250 for a whole day. You can leave the bus any time and jump back on it if you want to. It comes around certain destinations hourly (same for Dubai).
Places to visit in Abu Dhabi are: the Grand Mosque, the malls, the souqs, Emirates Palace, Yas Island, heritage village, etc.
A trip to Dubai by bus will cost AED 25 for one way only. In Dubai you have the choice to travel by cab, bus or metro depending where you want to go. Places to visit in Dubai please check out online. To many to mention them all. But - Bastakyia and Dubai mall should be on your agenda like also the Gold and spice souq.
Regarding food prices - same applies to Dubai what I said about Abu Dhabi. At "tourist" places and hotels you'll pay a much higher price than at any local restaurant.

When riding in a cab, as a woman you'll sit in the back. Have small notes on you to avoid an agruement about change and watch that the meter is running. Some cab drivers like to take advantage of "stupid" (from their view) tourists. Also the cab fare from Abu Dhabi Airport to any destination in Abu Dhabi is for a fixed price of AED 75. In a bus ladies are sitting in the front only.

When taking pictures, especially of women, please ask in advance. Consumption of alcohol is allowed but falling around in public while drunk can get you in trouble.

If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to email me.

I live in australia and you don't really hear that much about anime. Pokemon is getting boring and is childish. Dragon ball is good but it is completed. I hear people keep saying naruto is good and bleach. I have never been bothered to watch naruto. Can you also list some anime that is still running. Anyone also know how i can get the shonen jump magazine also?

Answer
If you are new to anime, i highly suggest you start with the older ones, because they are most certainly the best. (i.e Cowboy Bebop, Trigun)

For currently running though, you may want to check out

â Fairy Tale
â Umineko no Naku koro ni
â Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
â One Piece
â Dragon Ball Kai (basically Dragonball Z all over again without the fillers and sharpened animation)
â Guin Saga (has finished airing, but is still being subbed)
â Helling Ultimate (episodes are released very slowly)
â The Garden of Sinners (it's been completed but the last movie has yet to be subbed)

Ones that have only recently completed

â 07-Ghost
â Pandora Hearts
â Eden of the East
â Tears to Tiara
â Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

For more info on any of them check out the sites below.

http://www.animenfo.com (reviews, ratings, and synopsis)
http://www.anidb.net (air dates, episode titles etc)
http://www.anime-planet.com/ (screenshots, similar anime recommendations.)
http://myanimelist.net/ (reviews, ratings etc)

To watch most of them, check out http://www.animeseason.com/anime-list/

Don't know much about the magazines sorry, but like the previous answerer said, you can read or download most of them online.

what are some good online resources to learn japanese and portugese?

S.

I took a short japanese class and I want to continue learning Japanese over the summer.I also want to learn Portugese beacuse I have a friend who is moving to Brazil soon ;(.What are some good online recources to learn these.Or books. Thanks

Answer
The best way to learn Japanese is through a variety of methods. You need to work on your grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Its best to think of these as separate categories and focus on each specific category as these require different methods and techniques.

Start by learning the basics through grammar. These books really helped me.

⢠Shin Nihongo no Kiso I & II

⢠An Introduction to Modern Japanese by Osamu Mizutani & Nobuko Mizutani
http://japan-australia.blogspot.com/2011/04/introduction-to-modern-japanese.html

⢠Japanese Demystified by Eriko Sato a self-teaching guide
http://japan-australia.blogspot.com/2011/05/japanese-demystified.html

I also recommend trying to learn a certain amount of vocab or kanji each day as this helps you build up your vocab and kanji ability. I tried to learn 5 kanji per day or about 20 a week and did the same with vocab.

Watching Japanese anime or any Japanese TV program is a good idea for improving your listening skills and also your vocabulary. Keep a notebook and jot down any new words you hear. Then look them up and find out the meaning.

Websites are not always the best way to learn Japanese. Most websites are run by people with no teaching credentials and are not even native speakers of Japanese. Some of them are just interested in making money and not in helping you in what you need to be successful in learning Japanese.

I am using a AT&T Motorola NVG510 router and I have 4 computers, an Xbox, and a Wii running in this house. I have read that there is a way to go into the router settings and set who gets first priority. Please help.
I know very little about computers, but I do in fact know the IP Addresses of all the devices on my network.

Answer
I suspect your kids PC is taking all your bandwidth which slows down your surfing or gaming.
1st of all file downloads are the bandwidth killers NOT GAME PLAYING. aspects of gaming will act like downloads, installing a new game or doing patching for instance. actual playing uses very little bandwidth. realize that the server end of the game has to support you plus the number of players. they want as little bandwidth between you and them as possible.

your solution is not in the router. you need to tell the software that is doing the download to limit itself. 99% of software that does heavy download usage realize this and offer options to limit. you need to figure out which software needs to be limited. doing a download via browser is in the 1%. watching youtube is a heavy bandwidth use. iTunes is mixed depending on how your using. streaming/listening to a song/radio station is low usage. putting the song on your pc is high.

if your unable to discover which software or it's the browser or maybe just want to do a blanket limit there are 3rd party limiting bandwidth software. that will managed the pc on a global basis of all types of bandwidth usage.

having said all this. i do not know if your router can. some routers do offer quality of service options. the good ones have technical settings. buying a pizza for the local geek kid works every time.

the name of this 3rd party package i know will work on browsers eludes me at the moment. message me if you need this solution and google frustrates you. you will need that geek kid to use it.

How to run a dvd player off a comcast dvr cable box?

Q. I have the cable box run to the tv and can turn it on with no problem. I have the dvd player with all the right connections run to the cable box. I got my comcast remote to turn on the dvd player (as the aux option). But I don't know what button I'm suppossed to be hittting to change from watching the cable to watching a dvd. Any solution would be great.

Answer
The Motorola DVR from Comcast has all it's input connections turned off, those are open for the consumers in other countries who have to buy there DVR ( i.e. Canada) The only connections are available are the Composite out put (RGB) RCA, and the RF out, the eaithernet , USB, and Firewire ports are closed, (but there are some who have the Firewire ports open if you have the right drivers for your computer.

The USB ports do have power so you can have a usb light or USB fan (the motorola boxes get really really hot)

The best bet would to go wal-mart or another electronics store and get a system selector they are about 20-50 bucks and allow you to hook up to 8 devices to one RCA input

I wanna start running/jogging in the morning like maybe around 5:30-6am because i have a busy day with work school etc.. So do you have any tips? I live in a a safe neighborhood so i don't have to worry about anything happening.

Answer
Get up and run, you don't need to eat anything before running, just get out there and do it.
I find it easier to run early so nothing during the day keeps me from running, and I feel much better after running.
It is cool in the summer and I enjoy watching the sun come up.

Will jogging on a treadmill help to lose my stomach fat?

Keelie Dan

Yes, I know you can't spot reduce or anything, and that your stomach fat is the last to come off, so I don't need a lecture on that lol. But I'm not able to go running in my area (not very safe for a teen girl in my neighborhood) :/ But overall will eating better and running/jogging on a treadmill help me to flatten out my stomach? Thanks!!

Answer
It's not that your stomach fat is the last to come off.. you lose the same amount of fat all over.. but it's just that people tend to have more fat on their stomach. You're losing stomach fat all the while, it just takes longer for it to go completely away because there's just more there than there is say.. on your arms or neck.

Running on the treadmill does help. I'm 17 and when I started out I was really out of shape. I could only run at 4mph for like.. 15 minutes! Now.. I run at 4.5mph for 50 minutes! 4.5mph because I'm short and have a small stride. I can run at 5mph just fine.. but for longer distances and times.. it's better for me to stay at 4.5mph. So.. yeah.. doing that.. I still lost fat. I did it 5 days of the week with a break day on thursday and sunday. I'm still doing it too but now I have a different routine. This was just back when I was doing purely cardio. I also have a completely clean diet and that's what's really helped me as well. It doesn't just take eating healthy.. there are healthy foods that still have chemicals in them and that are processed.. you need to eat clean. You can do some more research on this on your own. Also.. only drink water.. and a lot of it! All of this really helped me! I've noticed a huge difference in the past two months. I'm still doing cardio but I'm also building muscle now and it's really starting to show!

So yes. Running on the treadmill will help you. I'm someone who stores fat more in my love handles and not as much in my stomach.. but now my stomach is completely flat. I suggest doing some ab workouts as well. Look up the channel Blogilates on youtube.. she has a lot of great workouts! Flatter My Abs really hurts but it gets the job done! You can mix that in with your routine or you can do it through twice and have it be your ab routine. I really like that one.. all her other workouts are fantastic too. Plus she's really peppy and just fun to workout with!

Just stay diligent with your plan and don't slip up! Always make sure to fit your workout in everyday! Preferably when you wake up.. Be disciplined. I know it's summer.. but get up at 7:30.. eat a quick piece of fruit like a banana for energy (bananas are really good before workouts!) and just do it! If you have something happening early in the day.. wake up earlier! I had drivers ed for a week starting at 8am so I got out of bed at 5:30am to do a full workout and still have time to shower! Don't slip up with eating healthy either. Give yourself one cheat day each week... but only allow one. Just stay on track!

I hope this helped! Good luck!

EDIT: Make sure you're jogging for 30 to 50 minutes! That's how long your heart rate has to be up to burn fat. I personally usually go for 40. The treadmill can get really boring so sometimes I bring the iPad down to the basement and watch Netflix while I run but lately I've just been making a really good playlist of all my upbeat songs and just having a dance party on the treadmill lol. Just do what keeps you entertained! I also like to just think about things.. like things that I want to do or things that I'm planning or something. I'm working on this really amazing project of my own in my garage this summer so I think about all the cool things I can add to that. Just do what you gotta do!

What is the average price to spend on a wedding dress?

~

i am just curious. I watch too much say yes to the dress. I have no plans to get maried until a long time form now.

Answer
If you go to a place like David's Bridal, they tend to run around $500-$1,000 with an average around $600. If you go to a boutique (which are obviously nicer dresses), they tend to run $1,000 - $5,000 with an average around $3,000. If you go to the high end designer shops (like you see on TV), they run $3,000 - $20,000+. I don't even want to guess the average on those.

If you want to pay less, you can get plain white dresses from places like Banana Republic for around $100 or you could try to buy your dress second hand for about that range.

If you buy a dress off the rack (like from David's Bridal), alterations can run $100 - $400 (unless you get lucky and the dress fits perfect or unless you just don't care how it fits).

Answer
Women's watches are generally smaller, because women generally have smaller wrists than men. The women's watch could be cheaper because there are less materials in it (especially if it is made out of expensive metals), or possibly if there is simply less demand by women for this kind of watch. The actual mechanism of the watch should be the same.

running watches by nike image

A Cat.

I just bought a Nano 6g and noticed it has this fitness software on it. I do a lot of running so it caught my interest. How well does the software actually work? Is it very accurate?

Answer
It is not very accurate. and it's not even that precise. (see wikipedia article for the difference).
However it might be good enough. If you are a real "running geek" you 'll want some kind of GPS device. A GPS with a Heart Rate monitor watch is the ultimate running geek instrument.

But if you just want a general idea of your running distances and speeds it's fine. especially if you already have one.

If you're a long distance racer its ok for training but that's about it. If you're running a 5K and your ipod is just 5% off. your ipod will have the finish line about 250M off.

Look around your area for a specialty running store, the one around here watches the way you run then help you choose a shoe that would best help you. They usually charge way higher, so just remember the name and buy the same shoes online.

I am 17 years old, a female. I weigh around 135 and am about 5'1. I am not in the best shape, and would to be able to lose about 15 lbs in about 3 months. I can walk for miles, but running and I don't get along. yet. Any suggestions on how to get in great shape, being able to run for longer periods of time? and about water, is it good or bad to drink a ton just before running?

Answer
I am a big proponent of the couch to 5 K running program (C25K). It's a walk to run program and its one of the best.

The C25K program slowly increases your effort over 9 weeks. I did it and I really liked the fact that I could see each week I was making progress and I never really felt like it was too hard.

You will have to get a sports watch that can be programmed to do intervals. I really like Timex watches; the trainer line is pretty good. And some of them have Heart Rate Monitors which is a nice way of monitoring your effort. Casio makes a interval timer that's simple and inexpensive, W756-1A, you can find it at amazon for $20. Or buy a Gymboss for $20. All the Gymboss does is time intervals, but its real simple to use and program.

If you have an iPod, you can download a podcast that is the couch to 5 K program and you won't even need a watch. And if you have an iPod touch or iPhone, you can download the Interval Run app for $2. It is easy to use and is pre-programmed with the C25K and several other programs.

If you're really thinking of getting a heart rate monitor, and you don't have an iPhone, then take a bigger plunge and get a GPS Heart rate monitor watch. They have the interval timers built in, and you can monitor both your distance and your effort. I like the Garnin 405.

Once you graduate from the C25K program they have other programs that are more advanced. I still do intervals once in a while. A lot of runners do them once a week. So you can plan on using your timer for a long time.

Doctors say that Caster Semenya has both male and female sex organs, making "her" a hermaphrodite. Those close to the runner say they are wrong.

What does everyone think?

Answer
I have been watching and answering on the story, but have not gone to the web in two days, I did not know doctors had examined her/him.

If she/he has male organs, then it is unfair for her/him to compete with women.

Women's sports are for women only.

well im doing a research paper and my passion is sports. so i was wondering is there anything in the new testament that relates to sports or like competition, peace in sports or something like that?

Answer
Sports are only alluded to a few times in the Bible.

---

I. Israelite Games

1. Children's Games:

There are two general references to the playing of children: Zec 8:5: "And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof"; and Gen 21:9 margin, where we read of Ishmael "playing" (metscheq). The rendering of our Bibles, "mocking," is open to question. Of specific games and pets there is hardly a mention in the Old Testament. Playing with ball is alluded to in Isa 22:18: "He will .... toss thee like a ball into a large country," but children need not be thought of as the only players. If the balls used in Palestine were like those used by the Egyptians, they were sometimes made of leather or skin stuffed with bran or husks of corn, or of string and rushes covered with leather (compare Wilkinson, Popular Account, I, 198-201; British Museum Guide to the Egyptian Collections, 78). The question of Yahweh to Job (41:5): "Wilt thou play with him (the crocodile) as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?" suggests that tame birds were petted by Hebrew children, especially by girls. The New Testament has one reference to children's play, namely, the half-parable about the children in the market-place who would neither dance to the flute as if at a marriage feast nor wail as if at a funeral (Mt 11:16 f parallel Lk 7:32).

2. Sports:

Running was no doubt often practiced, especially in the time of the early monarchy. Saul and Jonathan (2 Sam 1:23), Asahel (2 Sam 2:18), Ahimaaz (18:23,27) and some of the Gadites in David's service (1 Ch 12:8) were renowned for their speed, which can only have been the result of training and exercise. The same may be said of the feats of those who ran before a king or a prince (1 Sam 8:11; 2 Sam 15:1; 1 Ki 1:5; 18:46). The Psalmist must have watched great runners before he pictured the sun as rejoicing like a strong man to run his course (Ps 19:5b; compare also Eccl 9:11; Jer 8:6; 23:10). For running in the Greek games, see the latter part of this article.

Archery practice is implied in the story of Jonathan's touching interview with David (1 Sam 20:20,35-38) and in Job's complaint: "He hath also set me up for his mark. His archers compass me round about" (Job 16:12 f). Only by long practice could the 700 left-handed Benjamite slingers, every one of whom could sling stones at a hair-breadth and not miss (Jdg 20:16), and the young David (1 Sam 17:49), have attained to the precision of aim for which they are famous.

In Zec 12:3, "I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone," literally, "a stone of burden," Jerome found an allusion to a custom which prevailed widely in Palestine in his day, and has been noticed by a recent traveler, of stone-lifting, i.e. of testing the strength of young men by means of heavy round stones. Some, he says, could raise one of these stones to the knees, others to the waist, others to the shoulders and the head, and a few could lift it above the head. This interpretation is not quite certain (Wright, Comm., 364), but the form of sport described was probably in vogue in Palestine in Biblical times.

High leaping or jumping was probably also practiced (Ps 18:29). The "play" referred to in 2 Sam 2:14 ff of 12 Benjamites and 12 servants of David was not a sport but a combat like that of the Horatii and the Curiatii.

3. Specific References to Greek Athletics:

In addition to these general references there are many allusions to details, again found mainly in the Pauline Epistles. These may most conveniently be grouped in alphabetical order.

(a) Beast-fight.

The combats of wild animals with one another and with men, which were so popular at Rome toward the close of the Republic and under the Empire, were not unknown in Palestine. Condemned criminals were thrown to wild beasts by Herod the Great in his amphitheater at Jerusalem, "to afford delight to spectators," a proceeding which Josephus (Ant., XV, viii, 1) characterizes as impious. After the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD many Jewish captives were slain in fighting with wild beasts (BJ, VII, ii). This horrible form of sport must have been in the apostle's mind when he wrote: "I fought with beasts (etheriomachesa) at Ephesus" (1 Cor 15:32). The reference is best understood as figurative, as in Ignatius on Rom 5:1, where the same word (theriomacheo) is used, and the soldiers are compared to leopards.

(b) Boxing.

This form of sport is directly referred to in 1 Cor 9:26: "So box I (Revised Version margin, Greek pukteuo), as not beating the air." The allusion is probably continued in 9:27a: "but I buffet (the Revised Version, margin "bruise," Greek hupopiazo) my body."

(c) The Course.

Foot-races and other contests took place in an enclosure 606 feet 9 inches in length, called a stadium. This is once referred to in a passage in the context of that just mentioned, which almost seems based on observation: "They that run in a race-course

Is baseball a popular sport that is played throughout Europe?

Mr. Knowle

Baseball is a sport that is played all throughout the world. The sport is played in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Africa and South Korea to name a few nations that is played in. Although baseball is a global sport, is this sport a popular game that is played throughout the continent of Europe? Why or why not?

Answer
It's played but only as niche sport, however I often see a matches in my local park when I'm out jogging. http://www.blacksox.ie/ is the team's website. There wouldn't be European or Irish matches televised, although the big games in the US would be shown at about 3 in the morning.

I quite like baseball it's very similar to a Gaelic game called Rounders http://www.gaa.ie/page/rounders.html which I think was the actual fore runner to baseball. It's a game every school child in Ireland would play however it's not played outside school.

In Ireland the main sports would be:

Firstly: Hurling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmzivRetelE a game affectionately described as thirty lunatics on a pitch given weapons.

Second: Gaelic Football http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaelic_football

Third: Rugby. we're European Champions at International and Club level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8v-qZFVYnc Ranked 4th in the world, in other words we rock.

Forth: Football (Soccer) you'd of heard of this sport, no doubt.

Fifth: International Rules, hybrid game of Gaelic football and Australian Rules which ironically has very few rules. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_-J3zs_82k

These would all be televised. Then you have your, basketball (Relatively Popular), hockey, tennis (The big International Opens are televised), cricket, boxing, MMA and a long way down the list baseball.

Horse Racing and Golf are also absolutely massive in Ireland.

The problem is there's just far to many well established sports to compete with, it's the same problem throughout Europe.

Assume that an inexpensive watch runs 0.005% slower than a "perfect watch" (viz., a "time standard") that neither loses nor gains time. That inexpensive watch measures a time interval as Delta t = 5 days 8 hours 11 minutes 29 seconds ± 0.9 seconds, where the quoted uncertainty in time comes from the measurement procedure, not from the watch itself. Assuming that the same measurement procedure is used, what would the perfect watch measure for this time interval? Give the answer in seconds to the nearest 0.1 s. Also give the uncertainty in seconds to the nearest 0.1 second.

please show the steps on how to arrive at the correct answer, thanks!

Answer
Delta t = 5 days 8 hours 11 minutes and 29 seconds and this is the time on the Perfect watch.
Loss of time on an inexpensive watch of error 0.005% is delta time x percent error. Convert the delta time into seconds and multiply by the percent error.
Uncertainty is 0.9s. To find uncertainty multiply delta time in seconds with 0.9 seconds and find its value. Round to nearest 0.1 second.

You must do the working your own self.

What cameras have an interval shooting mode?

water_skip

What cameras have an interval shooting mode? I want a compact digital camera that will take a picture once in a while (like once a minute or something). That way I can leave it running all night and watch the stars go buy or something. Is there a name for this feature, besides time interval mode?

Answer
It's called time lapse photography.

Very few still cameras have this feature, although many top-end and even top consumer video cameras have a mode for it.

You'll likely need an aftermarket timer/shutter release if you want to automate this.

How can i train to become a life guard?

best watch for beginner runners image

Mist

I would like to become a atlantic city beach patrol life gaurd but I really need some help training. The testing consists of swimming, rowing, and running. THe running part i got covered. I am naturally a runner. As for swimming and rowing; not so much. I was wondering what is a good way to become a better swimmer. After swimming 50 meters im aired out and my whole upper body is weak. If anyone has some form tips that would be nice. What is a good training regiment for beginners? I got to be able to swim a good 500m in under 10 minutes. I have to be able to swim 500m in the ocean as well. Also as for the rowing... I have never rowed in my life. I have no idea how to row. How can i train for that? I have to be able to row a life gaurd boat for 1000m (1K). Here are the specifics if you guys want to check it out:
http://acbp.org/lgtestinfo.html
Thanks!

Answer
The only tip anyone can give you is that you must get yourself into better shape. Start off swimming as slow as possible ... breathe as often as you can ... take LONG strokes.

What do you expect to be told? No one on a message board can teach you how to swim. Watching videos gives you an idea but, when you are swimming you cannot determine if you are doing what you saw in the video. If someone told you HOW to swim, how would you know if you are doing things correctly? So ... if you want to improve, get some coaching. Join a swim team and LEARN how to swim.

Also ... if you've no idea about how to row a boat, how can someone determine what you should do? It is difficult to believe that you've NEVER seen anyone rowing a boat in a movie or a cartoon or on a lake! OK ... here goes ... sit in the row boat facing the direction you've come from (your back facing where you want to go) ... put the oars in the water behind you and pull on the oars toward your feet. If you want to turn left, use the right oar and vice versa. C'mon ... be reasonable.

Why do I get stomach cramps when I run?

kelly5245

Hi, so I am a 21yr old female and I work out regularly.
I run at least 2~3miles every other day at about a 8:30 min/ mile.
Sometimes 7:45 min/mile pace if I am feeling good.

Anyways.....
sometimes I get this absolutely horrible side stich or stomach cramp when I run.
It usually happens about 1~1.5 mile in to my run

The side stich literally feels like knives digging in to my right side just above my pelvis.
When I get a stomach cramp it feels like I'm getting a really painful period cramp.
All the stomach muscles just contract and I can hardly breathe.

I don't eat food for about an hour when I'm planning to go on a run.
I also hydrate sufficiently through out the day.

These symptoms occur randomly.
Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

I can't imagine what could be causing these pains.
It really really really sucks when I'm in that runners high and then I have
to stop because I am in so much pain.

Also, I thought these cramps only happen to beginner runners?
I don't consider myself an expert runner, but I've been running for 2 years
so I am definitely not a beginner.....

What could be causing this?
Any suggestions on how to prevent it???

Answer
Keep drinking water throughout the day and really focus on what you eat.
I'm in high school and my cross country season is coming to an end, but the eating thing helped me improve a lot. For lunch I would eat a burger, fries, etc. and would always get cramps. This year I decided to bring my lunch from home every day. A nice healthy sandwich, fruit, granola bars. This helped a lot! Seriously a lot, so watch not when you eat, but what you eat. Another thing that might help is to focus on your breathing. Take deep slow breaths not shallow and rapid. I can't describe how much breathing helps.n(what I always do is exhale when my right foot hits the ground) this helps keep the breathing slow and steady.

(To avoid confusion, don't exhale every time your right foot hits the ground. Just exhale every other or something like that. This also helps to get rid of cramps) oh yeah don't forget inhale through your nose and out through the mouth (like your kissing someone)

How to keep a long distance relationship?

running watch keeps distance image

Enrique

I've met this girl, about twice before, and we currently are in a relationship. I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to keep this long distance relationship going.

Answer
Long Distance Relationship is a very tough one to keep but not at all impossible. If both of you have smartphones which i'm sure you guys do, download an app for couples called Between. It is available on both Android and iTunes app store. You guys should webcam on Skype. Instead of talking to the camera, you guys could play games like Truth or Dare. It'd be fun. Try it! Make a song cover together? If you guys have same tastes in movies, go watch online movies together. Those are just some ideas to make the relationship more interesting in case you two run out of ideas on what to talk about.

Another advice regarding trust issues, you two have to be brutally honest with each other at all time. No secrets! Because being far away from each other and not knowing what the other does on the other side make things a lot difficult. So be honest with each other. Learn to express your feelings because your gf isn't a psychic and she can't tell how you feel without actually seeing you. Don't hide any negative feelings, talk about it to her and solve whatever the problem is together. She has to do the same things too.

That's all i could think of. Good luck! :)

Do I need to interfere with my cat stalking my kitten?

Pook

I have two female cats - one 8, the other 9 months (we've had her for 3 months now). They usually keep their distance, but when the older one thinks we aren't looking she'll run up and agressively swat the kitten until the little one flips on her back. Sometimes she'll do it when the kitten is playing on her own (I've never seen them play together). There's no blood but the kitten is pretty scared of the older cat, always watching where she's at, etc.

The only time I know they're fine is when they eat - they'll sit together in the kitchen with no problems and they eat with their bowls next to each other. I know there's some jealousy between them and we try to give both a lot of attention.

Since we've only had her a few months, might they still be working out territorial issues? Do I need to interfere or let them fight it out? I know it's my older cat that's the problem.

Answer
It's basically your older cat letting the younger one know who is in charge. I wouldn't interfere, your little baby is getting some good lessons right now. In a few months the baby will be bigger, and will swat the big one right back. There will probably be all out brawls at that point...but it's a sheer dominance thing. As long as no one gets hurt than it's ok. Just make sure you know how to break them out without touching them. I found a dropped book or a magazine smacked on a table is enough to stop the fight at least for a minute. You have to know this ahead of time just in case one is getting hurt...and to keep you from getting hurt when you try to help! Good Luck

Is it strange that after I lost 25 lbs and my wife lost 20 lbs that my libido has increased?

MthrNature

For 1.5 months we have been cutting out simple carbs, most desserts and sodas, watching our portions, eating small meals frequently throughout the day, walking 2-3 miles a day every day except when we do the "couch to 5K" walk run interval training or go on hikes. We exercise at varying levels almost every day from 40-90 minutes.

During this 1.5 months, I've lost over 25 lbs and my wife has lost 19 lbs. We have more energy, we feel happier.

Here is the thing: My libido is through the roof. I feel so attracted to my wife, and she feels so attracted to me. Through this journey we are spending a lot of quality time together and now our appetite for sex is greater.

It just seems strange. Is this unusual? Why does this happen?

Answer
Not at all. people with less fat generally have general testosterone production than overweight people. that and the daily workouts also help boost those healthy hormones you need to feel like a man.

your wife looking better is probably a double whammy for your little soldier down there. good luck in the bedroom.

How much should i run each day for cross country?

latina gur

I'm 15 years old. I have never ran crosscountry, but im in good shape cause i play other sports. But i don't think im ready for crosscountry. Oh i want to run 2 miles in less than 15 min. So I need a workout. Thankyou bye!

Answer
If your in good shape, I'm going to recomend you start out running without any breaks for thirty minutes. You should do this at least four times a week. As you feel more comfortable with the distance, you can increase the number of days you run, how long you run(boost it to 45 minutes), or how fast or hard you run. This will give you the endurance you need to run cross country and the two mile.

The best way to get speed is through interval training. To do this, go to a highschool or college track, or any place you know exactly how far you're running. Bring a watch(watches are essintal for cross country) Warm up with two laps on the track, or 1/2 a mile. For the work out, run one lap(1/4 a mile) much faster than your workout speed, but not all out sprinting speed. Never sprint! You should be able to run the same speed the entire lap. Once you've finished the lap, note how fast you ran it, and unless you're faintingly exhausted, try to shoot for all your laps at that speed. Jog the same distance you ran(one lap) as a recovery. Then repeat the hard paced lap. Do this five times. This is the best way to build up distance speed, but don't overdo this. Only do this workout once a week, and if you think your getting injured, stop until you can diagnose the problem.

At the end of a week, you should have a long run. If you are running for thirty minutes, your long run should be fourty-five minutes. If your running for forty-five minutes, make the long run an hour. This run is essential for building endurance.

These workouts build the base of any great running program. Increase your intensity as you get more comfortable with them. If you start and they are to hard, slow down, but try to build up to them. Good luck with your cross country career!

best garmin watch for running and cycling image

Powderpuff

I'm in between a Garmin Forerunner 50 with footpod and heart rate monitor for $200 or Forerunner 205 for $200. I'm not sure which one to get. Help?

Answer
Footpods are becoming a lot more accurate with modern technologies; but then so are the GPS watches. The footpods have never been quite as accurate, for most people it won't make much differece. If you run a variety of different terrains, then the footpod will lose accuracy, as long as your GPS reciever has a view of the sky then it won't. Also if you do any other sports, or may in the future, cycling, horse riding etc; then the GPS unit can work with that, the footpod cannot. For pure SD work, then pick the GPS unit.

However you should look into HR training also, in a lot of training circumstances, it is more useful to have HR information than it is to have SD, and allows more complete training and faster improvements. Idealy you would have both of these features. The forerunner 50 does provide both these features, the 205 does not; if you were going to get the 205 with aim of long term training, I think you would soon regret not having the HR information available.

The best bit of kit available from garmin for this area is the 305, a bit more money, but its the better bit of kit; If your spending so much money you would be unwise imo to stop just short of the best. If you can't stretch to the 305, and running is likely to be your sole sport, stick to the 50 but expect accuracy may not be right up there.

I'm looking for a good watch to run with that will keep track of my pace, heart, calories...all the fun stuff?

CJC

Although I'm a little confused by all the offerings as well as the mixed reviews from users. Some say that the GPS on the garmin watches don't work - well that would be a shame not to get it. Some others say the Garmin 50 is too basic. Timex looks good, but doesn't have pace calculation (at least I dont think it does). So let loose people and tell me your thoughts!

Answer
You have 2 choices here, go for GPS or Footpod system. I prefer the GPS watches.

With the GPS you loose the signal a bit when you are in between tall buildings, under bridges and things like that so if you are running in a city footpod (like the Nike+ system) Might be better for you.

On the plus side, you can use them for multiple sports like cycling etc., the garmin ones let you download the data to google earth which is a nice facility and things like that. All will give you a pace display on the screen as you run. The better the watch and newer model and the gps gets more reliable. I've never had a problem with my Garmins GPS.

I'd say decide a budget for the watch and go to a running shop and check which ones do what, though I think the basic difference is that the gamin is all in one unit and the timex has a gps receiver separate from the watch (but the watch is smaller)
