Beginner at running????

Felquish

I've played sports that especially required a lot of running like basketball and softball or maybe a lot of stamina or endurance like swimming. I, however, have never really been a runner and I never really tried to "get better" at it because I was just always out of breath and I just hated it. A few months ago, I learned about the breathing count thing and learned that I do best with counting two over and over again.
Anyways, what program should I do to allow me to run better than I do correctly? I've heard about the couch to running program but I'm not so sure because the other day, I was running in the hallways of my school with some other girls and we went for fifteen minutes straight. We stopped to wait for the ones behind but other than that, we were running all over the place. I was near cramps two times but other than that and getting tired near the end, I was fine.
Also, what type of athletic wear should I look into especially if I were to run outside in the cold?

Answer
Obtain a running watch, running gloves, arm warmers and a sweater if you're that cold. Just run everyday and tell yourself it will get easier the more you run. If you can get on a treadmill, use that to find your rhythm.
