I am training for my first half marathon (my first long distance race) and I would like to know how I can keep track of my mileage (and better yet: my pace as well) as I am running. I am relatively new to where I live so I am not super familiar with the best places to run or what not. When I run I like to be able to check time and distance as I go as opposed to waiting till after I finish my run. Any suggestions? Also, I am a college student so I dont have tons of money.
Thanks!

Answer
The only way to do what you describe is get a watch with a GPS tracking device. I recommend a Garmin. You don't need the latest model, a 301 works fine for my purposes, it even has a virtual assistant that lets you know if you are ahead or behind the pace you want to maintain. It will give you your time, the distance in metric or English, your pace while you are running and your average pace at the end of your run and the fastest pace your were running at, your average pulse and the highest pulse you had during your run. It does more stuff too. Amazon has some for about $125.

What kind of running watch do you use?

Also what are your thoughts on it? I am in the market for a watch for cross country to race in because my current watch is GPS which isn't allowed

Answer
I have a Garmin 301 which is an older model but has everything the newer models have. The 201 doesn't have GPS.
