I saw reviews and trailers for both movies and I am 15 years old I think I can handle them but my dad says no to everything!! Everyone says Speak is really good and I have already read the book before and Twilght looks ssoooo awesome, help?!

Answer
I know this must be tough. Your dad obviously wants to protect you from images/stories that he deems as either inappropriate or potentially harmful. You obviously disagree with this. What you need to do is sit down with your father and ask him to explain his reasoning. Is he afraid of scenes that may depict sexual themes? Violence? Material that runs counter to his/your beliefs (this last one is tricky)? Listen to him and try to see things from your perspective. After that, ask him to hear your reasons for why you wish to see these films. You could then try to tell him that as you grow up, you will be exposed to images like this and probably worse. Then point out that this may be a good opportunity while you are still young, on how to deal with these kinds of messages. If he is so concerned, then perhaps you could encourage him to watch it with you and promise to discuss the themes/images both of you think may be controversial.

This seems like a lot of work, but it really is an opportunity to show you are mature enough to handle such films and other challenges. He may appreciate your willingness to hear him out and the opportunity to see what kinds of things you are enjoying.

One more thing, if it is his fear that these things are anti-christian, it is a bit harder, but stress that you understand that vampires and the like are fictional, and watching movies such as these is hardly going to make you suck blood any-time soon (again, a good reason for him to watch with you and see for himself). Good Luck.

Is it advisable to review some smart TVs before your purchase?

Roger

In the coming month my sister in law is going to purchase her smart tv. Yesterday we were discussing about it and I suggested that she read some online reviews before she buys one. She said she doesn't need to read them, since she doesnât believe in such reviews. Wha's your opinion?

Answer
As it is always advisable to read reviews on a product before purchasing, I find smart TV something you'll have to try out for yourself. Smart TV isn't for everyone. There are people who enjoy TVs for purely watching programs and movies and there are people who want their TV to run like a smart phone. I personally love smart TV. I've had great fun using smart TVs in the past and they seem to get better every year. I've tried the Viera platform on my VT30 and it runs great although it can lag sometimes. I also have a newer 2012 LG LM 9600 (calibrated) model and the smart TV runs much faster. It even outperforms a normal laptop - HDTV hook up in pure speed. One thing I really like about my LG smart tv though is the remote. You can speak into the mic (built-in) for typing which is very time efficient when internet surfing. Typing in URL's on my viera can take forever.

Go to a retailer and check out all smart TVs and then decide. The decision is ultimately yours.
